BC Hydro keeps saying they need more money to upgrade the infrastructure in BC but with every increases what happens, the infrastructure fails so why should we pay the higher rates if you are not going to fix the problem? via The Vancouver Sun Collapse of hydro tower led to power outages, traffic chaos
On Vancouver Island when Highway # 1 was closed between Victoria and Mill Bay earlier this year, the company responsible covered the costs of people that it inconvenienced. I sure hope BC Hydro is made to do the same.
There is no such thing as open government, not even if our premier in BC, Christy Clark says there is, since she should know, since she was around when the BC Rail scandal broke and until the Liberals come clean on the whole affair since a noose still hangs around their necks there will never be open government in BC.
Seems taxes ( HST, Carbon, Tobacco, Personal, etc, etc ) are not the only thing keeping our over spending government going.
This from the Canadian Press vis Canadian Business, “Northern B.C. marijuana grower must forfeit $125,000 to the Crown“
Why not legalize the shit and be done with it. They could collect a lot more on taxes if the legalized the weed and would’nt have to spend countless millions on police, crown counsels and courts and prisons convincing people.
Thought we lived in 2011 not 1985.
Here’s a hint BC via [Philadelphia Daily News]: D.A.: Philly’s new pot policy just makes sense … and saves dollars Now I wonder if any Crown Counsel or any police department in BC can learn a thing or two.
This is why the Cloud sucks “Microsoft admits Patriot Act can access EU-based cloud data” and why I won’t be subscribing to anything that Apple or Microsoft are trying to sell.
A new poll suggests that “residents of the sole North American jurisdiction with a carbon tax don’t seem to mind their singular tax status” Vancouver Sun JULY 1, 2011 6:42 AM
Wrong, I’m not happy about it all. Coupled with the HST, the common taxpayer in BC is getting screwed blue and tattoed by the BC government and were suppose to be happy about it.
I have’nt seem my personal income tax go down a nickel and even if we did get a break from the provincial government either the fed’s, regional districts or the municipal government would pounce on it and fuck us anyways.
Makes you wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to either work or retire in BC unless of course your independently wealthy and don’t give a fuck, then it would make sense.
As a working stiff I don’t want the HST anymore than the next working stiff since and this the only reason “value-added tax will hurt families because it dumps $2 billion of the tax burden onto consumers from business”
If I was in business then yes I would be voting “NO” but I’m not so I’m voting “YES”, unless of course I win a lottery, which highly unlikely, then I’ll be voting “NO”, but what all this (the federal and provincial governments) is doing is creating a have-have not society, where if your lucky enough to get past the middle class and into the money then your just a slave to both the company you work for and the governments that supposedly you elect.
I can not believe how fat Harper looks these days. Sitting around the P.M.O. must be really hard people or is he just bloody lazy to get out and exercise.
It sit here reading the news from all corners of the globe, since the unemployment situation really has changed that much over the course of the year, except more people are either working for wages under the table, part time or are not looking for a job at all and I keep seeing that the global economies are just about as bad as they were a year ago if not two and for all the G8 summits that countries hosted including Canada, that spent just under a billion dollars on, what have they accomplished other than send the world to the brink of what is referred to as a double dip.
From where I sit the G8 countries wasted not only time but a lot of peoples money for photo op’s and nothing more.
I cannot believe the Liberals in BC today, ok this week.
Not a month ago, but before the riots in Vancouver BC, the provincial government could’nt afford to pay the sheriffs to stand in court and escort prisoners. The Ministry was trying to find money within their ministry to pay them.
Fast forward a month and the Premier is now handing money out that it must have printed in the past month or they won a lottery they did’nt tell us, the taxpayers of BC, since so far they have handed out just shy on 10 million dollars in the past week to two different causes. On Monday June 27 2011, the premier committed $550,000 towards a new facility that will train workers to build and repair ships. See article B.C. contributes $550,000 to new shipbuilding training facility.
Not twenty four house later she’s announcing 7.5 million dollars to help get the Vancouver Island rail back on track but this is on condition that the belt tightening federal government come through with the same amount See Article B.C. commits to Vancouver Island rail upgrades.
So where did the money come from, since they could’nt afford this a month ago or have the money presses been working overtime in the basement of the legislature in Victoria BC.
